About MeClick here.About This Blog
This is my personal blog, so there’s no accounting for what you’ll get here. I’ll blog a lot of something one month and be on something totally different the next.

I also rant and argue a lot.

Stuff I usually blog:
→ politics (American and international)
→ international relations
→ fandom
→ social justice (feminism especially)
→ language & linguistics
→ personal stuff
→ Alison Krauss

This blog doubles as an Alison Krauss’ boobs appreciation blog because for some reason, when you do a Google search for Alison’s boobs, my blog is generally the first relevant result. I don’t know how this happened, but I will accept it, because if people are gonna be googling her boobs, better they find the blog of a heterosexual fangirl than that of some skeezy old man. (For the record, I also co-moderate Fuck Yeah Alison Krauss.)

If I ever disappear or get hacked, find me at iellaantilles.tumblr.com.

And if you speak Czech, talk to me ‘cause I need to practice that language more!

reading books in romance languages

hanuueshe:

Looks at what the anima and animus are, how they’re formed, and why fiction writers need to understand them.
Obviously AKUS will be well represented, but what else is good for a beginner?

His idea of bluegrass is trucks and Republicans. When I told him it’s more like “my baby’s buried by the mountain stream and my daddy’s in jail for murder,” he said, “So they just keep singing about the same things generation after generation, then?”

Newbies are such hard work. >_<

In answer to my previous post:

In answer to my previous post::
#2 is the false one.

Please, like I would flirt with Mr. Harvard. Dude has so much privilege I can smell it from 20 minutes away. He gels his hair and speaks like a caricature of an old-money Harvard grad (I’m going to start keeping a list of things he has actually said in casual conversation) and his last name has an accent mark in it and he wants to go to the Middle East in order to help people there. A white Harvard-educated rich American guy born in 1990. Is going to help the Middle East. You guys. You guys.

As for the Spanish-speaking student, I think one of them was attempting to ask me out the other day, but I successfully dodged it by telling him (quite truthfully) that I’m not allowed to speak to him in Spanish per my instructor’s rules. (Even though that same instructor speaks to the Italian students in Italian. Qué double standard.) But so, I guess I’m safe from an awkward situation unless this guy goes home and learns date terminology in English.

All the other things on that list? I actually did.

fallingwiththesun:

Guess.

1. I had a lengthy debate with two professors and three fellow students about whether zombie readiness plans are necessary, and what the best procedures would be.

2. I flirted with a Harvard grad in French, and then with one of my students in Spanish. (Oops.)

3. I explained the term “bloodplay” to a professor and fellow student.

4. I made one fellow student cry with laughter by introducing the phrase “sex swing” into a classroom activity.

5. I marked the stress patterns on vocabulary words using the anarchy symbol in front of the class.

Thank you fandom.

So, in the wake of reading this terrifying shit, Postcard and I started chatting, as you do, about the zombie apocalypse. Here are some things Postcard and I enjoy: zombie media, common sense, and YELLING ABOUT STUFF. Thus, for your reading pleasure, please enjoy our simple twenty-step guide to NOT DYING in the unlikely event that a zombie apocalypse ravages humanity:

IN THE EVENT OF AN ACTUAL APOCALYPTIC SITUATION, ASSUME THAT THE FOLLOWING THINGS ARE GOING TO STOP WORKING: running water (this includes toilets); anything that relies on electricity (this includes gas pumps); anything that relies on natural gas lines (this includes gas stoves/central heat); basically, anything that relies on there being a factory of some variety at the other end of thing you want to make do stuff. THAT’S ALL GONNA BREAK. THIS INCLUDES THE INTERNET. Thus, the most important thing to do in the event of a zombie apocalypse is:

RESEARCH. For as long as you possess the internet, do everything you can to learn as much as possible. Research edible/medicinal plants (or seriously, go into a bookstore and loot your shit a guidebook, they’re not large, they sell little tiny ones, you can put it in your pocket, WHY DOES EVERYONE IN EVERY ZOMBIE MOVIE NOT DO THIS). Research, from available information, how the zombies work/which of their senses are functional—for example, if they operate largely by smell, you want to work on smelling not alive. If they operate largely by sight, DON’T LIGHT FIRES AT NIGHT. And speaking of fires…

I’ll follow all of these except for the one about cutting my hair.

I’ll learn to put it in a bun, tyvm.

wildchildmonkey a réagi à votre discussion : Adventures in CELTA:

In 1962, Doc Watson and some of his musician neighbors set out from their home in the Blue Ridge Mountains on the journey of a lifetime, to perform at the Ash Grove folk club in Los Angeles.

“I remember the first trip we did,” Watson said in a 2008 interview. “We borrowed a little station wagon from the late Clarence Ashley’s son and drove to California and back, and I remember thinking, ‘Lord, what a big old country this is.’ I was a mountaineer, just a country boy. I’d never been nowhere like that before.”

Within a few years, Watson seemingly had been everywhere, as his prowess on guitar and his vast store of traditional Southern music made the blind musician an internationally celebrated artist.

Watson, 89, who recorded more than 50 albums and won seven Grammy Awards, died Tuesday at Wake Forest Baptist Medical Center in Winston-Salem, N.C., according to his representatives at Folklore Productions, a Santa Monica management company. He had undergone colon surgery Thursday…
